ExpressRoute - A Brief Overview As a Service For Windows Azure

ExpressRoute is the new Windows Azure service which offers reliable connections for data-centers and maximum returns on investment.
As Microsoft is planning out new services and rolling out new partners for Windows Azure, they are also searching for a provider who can help reap maximum benefits with existing investments and also make optimum utilization of cloud storage. Microsoft has been a supporter of hybrid cloud strategy according to their Cloud OS strategy.
The new Azure service called ExpressRoute is expected to offer private and reliable connections between data-centers and Windows Azure. This technology is expected to assist customers to make the best use of their on-premise investments and optimum use of cloud computing.
With partners like AT&T exhorting customers to utilize Azure cloud as an extension of their existing datacenters, customers can benefit from better security and enhanced economics as they set their networks in Windows Azure. Microsoft is also offering ExpressRoute with Level 3 to deliver extensibility and scalability with incredible global reach for enterprises. With better efficiencies, organizations can focus on routine operations without hassle too. With ExpressRoute today, there are many ways to connect to Azure. One can aggregate traffic and enable many locations connecting them with Azure services.
Multi-Factor Authentication for Office 365
Multi-Factor Authentication for Office 365 is now available which enables IT administrators for providing extra security with an additional layer of authentication.
This feature is presented through Windows Azure Multi-Factor Authentication and works with every Office 365 application as part of the package. The same set of capabilities is available to Windows Azure administrators for no additional cost whatsoever.
More features are being added to the public preview of the Windows Azure Active Directory premium as announced in November last year. This is Microsoft’s enterprise cloud identity and a comprehensive access management solution. The addition of self-service group management is one of the changes brought about by Microsoft for the preview. This feature is added to simplify routine and daily administration of groups, thus enabling group owners to manage the approval requests and the maintenance of the group memberships efficiently and effectively.
Partnership with Level 3 Cloud Connect Solutions
As mentioned before, Microsoft's Windows Azure is in partnership with Level 3 Cloud Connect Solutions for providing solutions to enterprises related to private network connections. The ExpressRoute service will have direct connection with the Level 3 global network thus keeping performance and security problems to the minimum.
This strategic relationship with Windows Azure will provide enterprises with better choice and flexibility for cloud operations which is sure to be the platform for future growth.
According to a recent FileCatalyst research paper, which focuses on studies related to methods for enhancing file transfer speeds, state that the data throughput on public networks which possess high traffic, is four times slower than any private network. The new Microsoft partnership is said to deliver several enhancements for various Windows Azure customers worldwide with better storage optimization, better application performance and better security.
With Windows Azure services, analysts state that the storage and compute capabilities of data centers can be escalated beyond what was thought with enterprise infrastructures. This technology is useful during periods of disaster recovery and when confronting continuity concerns. Possible sensitive applications will need to be virtualized inside a hybrid network as part of better security measures.
